Ralph J. Barr, aged 69, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2025, in Wilmington, North Carolina. Born on May 19, 1956, in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Ralph was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who touched the lives of many with his warmth and dedication.
Ralph's professional life was marked by versatility and skill. He began his career as a welder, displaying a keen eye for detail and craftsmanship that would later define his work as an electrician and builder. His contributions to the community were significant, having worked for the New Hanover County Parks and Recreation Department. Ralph played a key role in the construction of Snow's Cut in Wilmington, as well as the development of gazebos and playgrounds at Hugh MacRae Park, now known as Long Leaf Park. Furthermore, his creative flair was evident in the Christmas lights he crafted, which adorn the light poles in
Carolina Beach, NC every festive season.
Beyond his professional achievements, Ralph found joy in life's simpler pleasures. He loved camping and frequented the shooting range, where he enjoyed the camaraderie and focus the sport provided. As homage to his hometown, he rooted for the Pittsburgh Steelers football team and as a talented musician, Ralph played the trombone with the Brunswick Band, bringing music and joy to those around him.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph James Barricella Sr. and Clair Sprow Baker, and his sister Nancy Miller. He is survived by his devoted wife, Linda Estep; his daughter, Lynn Hegedus, and her husband, Tim; his son, Michael Barricella; and his stepdaughter, Terri Anderson. Ralph's legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Natalie and Madison Kudlacz, Nathaniel Barricella, and Jonathan and Kayla Ivey. He is also survived by his loyal and furry companion, Tola, a 15-year-old Lakeland Terrier who was always by his side.
Private family services are being planned to honor Ralph's memory. His family invites those who knew him to remember Ralph as a man of integrity, passion, and kindness, whose legacy will live on in the hearts of those he loved and the community he served.
