John T. Barringer Jr.

After a long life well lived and at the venerable age of 96, John T. Barringer, Jr. died peacefully on Sunday, July 21, 2024 in Vero Beach, Florida.
He was born in Salisbury, North Carolina, on November 10, 1927, and served in the Army during World War II.
He spent a career with the Rural Electrification Administration, USDA, Washington, DC, holding various administrative positions, and retired in 1985.
In 1987 he and his wife Pauline moved to Vero from Alexandria, Virginia,
where they continued sailing on their boat and traveling around the country in an old VW camper van. He played golf whenever he could and did so right up to his passing. He was an active member of the Vero Beach Yacht Club, serving as Commodore for the year 2000. He also served on the board of the Vero Towers Condominium for many years where he voluntarily dedicated his time, management skills and knowledge for his fellow residents. He was affectionately known by many as "the southern gentleman".
He is survived by his wife Pauline of 47 years; children: Joan, Tom (Vickie) and Claudia (Jack) and stepdaughter Jeanne Cox; 3 grandchildren: Lauren (Justin), Chad (Shea) and Jack; and 5 great-grandchildren: Lila, James, Emmy, Henry and Teddy.
He was predeceased by Regina Barringer, the mother of his children, grandson Brent Dellinger, and 6 younger siblings.
He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and a Funeral Mass will be held in the fall. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation in his honor may be made to a favorite charity.
