John Bartee Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cochran Funeral Home - Livingston on Jan. 5, 2026.
John Spencer Bartee, 55, of Onalaska, Texas was born November 22, 1970, in Huntsville, Texas and passed away December 30, 2025, in The Woodlands, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father, John Bartee.

He was a hardworking man who was always fixing, building, or working on something. He took pride in staying busy and providing for those he loved.

A simple and reserved man, John found peace in the outdoors, especially through hunting and fishing. Above all, he was a loving father and grandfather who cared deeply for his family and showed his love through his actions, loyalty, and steady presence.

John will be remembered for his strong work ethic, quiet strength, and the deep love he had for those closest to him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his mother, Geri Tanner of Onalaska, Texas; daughters, Brooke Bartee of Onalaska, Texas and Hailey Bartee of New Waverly, Texas; grandchildren, Timothy Furrer, Levi Furrer, and Maelynn Carter; sisters, Candice Cantrell and husband Donald, and Tammy Porter, all of Onalaska, Texas; brother, Jody Bartee of Onalaska, Texas; and girlfriend, Susan Johnson of Livingston, Texas; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

May John rest in God´s eternal peace. I am grateful for the friendship we shared and the kindness he showed so freely. His presence was a blessing, and his spirit will always be remembered. My prayers are with all who loved him, that they may find comfort and strength during this time.

John John was a great guy and awesome person he was like an uncle to me and I remember all the times we would work on his step side Chevy truck and play pool all the time. He would do anything for anyone.

For almost nine years, I had the pleasure of knowing John through being with his daughter, Brooke. John loved all of his family and grandchildren deeply. When hunting season came around, everyone knew the only place you´d find John was in the woods, and when hunting season ended, he was right back on the water for fishing season. John was a true outdoorsman who found peace and joy in nature, and he lived life doing what he loved most. He was a good man who cared deeply for those around him and will always be remembered for his love of family, the outdoors, and the memories he left behind. I will continue to pray for peace and comfort for his daughters, Brooke and Hailey, his grandchildren, his mother, and the rest of his siblings and family.
