John Karl Bayman, 83 of Van Buren, Indiana, passed away at his home on Monday, May 5, 2025.
John was born on November 2, 1941, in Muncie, Indiana, to Frank Edwin and Jean F. (Dyke) Bayman. He graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1959 and continued his education at Ball State University. John served his country in the United States Army, where he served from 1966 to 1968. John married Beverly (Kessinger) Bayman on September 6, 1969 in Van Buren. He worked at A&P in Marion as a certified meat cutter, Weaver Popcorn for 32 years and as a radio operator for the Van Buren Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years. John was very involved in his community, helping set up for the popcorn festival, coaching the girls summer softball team, and even being awarded citizen of the year. He was athletic and strong, playing in the summer league for the Celtics, a champion runner making the first 4 minute mile, and a golden glove boxer. He was a lifeguard at the Waterbowl in Muncie and also a Red Cross instructor.
John was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Steven Bayman Sr., Jerry E. Bayman, and Thomas Bayman, and sisters, Angie Krull and Sue Bayman.
Loving survivors include his wife of 55 years, Beverly Bayman of Van Buren, IN, children, Ann (Robert) Loftis of Van Buren, IN, Julie Johnson of Woodburn, IN, and Kristy Bayman of rural Grant county, grandchildren, Karlee (Brandon) Adams, Britton Laypoole, Kohl Loftis, Shane Hobbs, Johnny Crandall, Cody Stinson, Jacqueline and Kirstin, great grandchildren, Mason, Braylee, Kameryon and Brooklyn, brother and sister-in-law, Lester and Pat Penrod, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may gather to share and remember at Van Buren Volunteer Fire Department 222 N 1st St. Van Buren, IN 46991, on Sunday, May 11, 2025, from 3pm to 7pm. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 12, 2025, at 2pm with visitation one hour prior. Military honors will be performed by the Van Buren American Legion Post #368. John will be laid to rest at Marion National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: the Van Buren Volunteer Fire Department or the Van Buren American Legion Post #368.
