Northbridge - John E. Berkowitz, age 82, a cherished and respected member of the Whitinsville community, passed away peacefully of natural causes on January 26, 2024, at the age of 82. Born on June 17, 1941, John's life was characterized by his quiet strength, humility, and the profound love he held for his family and friends.
John's journey began in the heart of Northbridge, MA, where he was a beacon of kindness and generosity throughout his life. After a fulfilling career, John retired from General Motors, where he was well-regarded for his dedication and work ethic. His professional path also saw him providing valued service at Nowlan's Package Store and driving for Tom Berkowitz Trucking, Inc., where he was known for his reliability and skill.
Above all, John was a devoted family man. He was a loving husband to his late wife, Sandra A. Berkowitz (née Castell), with whom he shared countless cherished memories. Together, John and Sandy traveled extensively, finding joy in each new adventure and in the simple pleasure of each other's company. Their love was a testament to partnership and mutual respect that stood as an example to all who knew them. He is survived by his loving children: Brian Berkowitz of Devenport, FL, Brenda Juskavitch and her husband Robert of Worcester, Tina Berkowitz of Northbridge, John Berkowitz of Worcester and Gary Berkowitz and his wife Jennifer of Uxbridge; his brothers: Robert Berkowitz of FL, Harry Berkowitz and his wife Linda of Northbridge and Tom Berkowitz and his wife Jeanne of Sutton; 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
John's role as a father and grandfather was marked by the same quiet, unassuming love that he brought to all aspects of his life. His ability to fix anything and build things with his hands was not just a hobby, but a way of caring for his family, creating a warm and secure home where laughter and love were never in short supply. His children and grandchildren will forever remember the lessons he taught, not through words, but through the actions of his everyday life.
A man of faith, John was a longstanding member of Cornerstone Church. His commitment to his beliefs was evident in the way he lived his life, always striving to be a source of support and comfort to those around him. He embodied the values of his church community, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who worshiped alongside him.
John's love for the outdoors was well known, as he found peace and contentment in camping with his family at Sutton Falls. These moments spent in nature were some of the happiest of his life, surrounded by the people he loved and the tranquility of the natural world.
A funeral service will be held at Cornerstone Church, 6 Hartford Ave E., North
Uxbridge, MA 01569 on Saturday, February 24 at 11 AM followed by burial at St. Patrick Cemetery, Whitinsville.
