John Joseph Bindner, 54, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died on, Friday, January 10, 2025, at his home following a prolonged illness.
John was born on January 23, 1970, in San Antonio, Texas, the son of Justin and Margaret (Allen) Bindner. He and his family lived in Minnesota and Ohio before relocating to Iowa in January of 1978, where John lived out the rest of his life. He worked primarily in the restaurant industry beginning at Bishop's Buffet while in high school. He worked for more than 20 years at The House of Lords in Coralville, Iowa, where he earned recognition as a top Iowa Chef. After the restaurant closed, he worked for Iowa Power & Light and other local restaurants. He loved traveling to Phish concerts, frisbee golf, and watching sports with his friends. After the death of his father in 1998, he and his mother took care of each other in the family until her passing in 2012.
John is survived by his siblings, Michael Bindner, Teresa Pool, Gregory (Alisa Male) Bindner, Stephen (Steven Darby) Bindner, a nephew, Jonah Pool, and a niece, Catherine Bindner, his aunt Peg Bindner, and numerous cousins, as well as his beloved dog, Stormy.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Justin James and Margaret (Allen) Pool, and canine friends Teddy and Joey.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
