Eileen Lampe Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 25, 2026.
Eileen Veronica (Brimeyer) Lampe, 83, of Hiawatha, Iowa, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026, after a long battle with peritoneal cancer.

Elieen was born December 31, 1942, to Cornelius and Selina Brimeyer. She grew up on a farm in Sherrill, Iowa, with five brothers and sisters. Eileen graduated from Wahlert Catholic High School, where she enjoyed academics and playing violin. While in high school, she earned a spot with the Iowa All-State Orchestra.

After graduation, Elieen went on to earn a BA in Elementary Education with a minor in Music from the University of Iowa. She joined the Cedar Rapids Community School District where she taught first and second grade students for six years before taking a break from full-time teaching to raise her children.

On June 28, 1969, Eileen (Brimeyer) married Daryle Lampe at St. Patrick's Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They had two children, Lisa and Jason. At home she enjoyed spending time with family and gardening. Eileen was the director of third grade, and taught second, and third grade religious education for St. Pius X Catholic Church for four years. In addition, she authored and published a teaching aid book for the rosary and Catholic mass.

Eileen returned to teaching as a substitute teacher taking on many long-term assignments. During that time, she served as a Uniform Manager for the Kennedy High School Marching Band.

In retirement, Eileen enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and granddogs. Daryle and Eileen took several trips before her cancer diagnoses. She volunteered at a local elementary school helping young students improve reading and comprehension skills. Her love of music continued in watching her grandchildren perform in many concerts, marching band, Drum Corps International (DCI), and Winter Guard International (WGI) performances.

Eileen is survived by her children, Lisa (Brian) Colton and Jason (Amy) Lampe; grandchildren, Ben, Tommy, Kira, and Logan; and sisters and brothers, Alice, Rose, Lawrence (Larry), and Delbert.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Daryle; parents, Cornelius and Selina; and sister, Carol.

A celebration of Eileen's life will be held in conjunction with one for her husband, Daryle, at a later date. Private family burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
