Grapevine, Texas - Dr. John Wilfred Boyd, 65, of Grapevine, Texas passed away unexpectedly on March 26 after a brief hospital admission against an aggressive heart infection.
John was born on December 13, 1956, in Stuttgart, Germany on a U.S. military base. John grew up in Prairie Village, Kansas, then found a new home in the great state of Texas. He graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1978 and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 1982. He completed his residency at Parkland Hospital in 1985, then went on to become an anesthesiologist and ultimately established his own anesthesia group that still lives on today, Pinnacle Anesthesia.
John thrived in retirement, going on to become a medical consultant, writer, public speaker, editor of the Grapevine Historical Society newsletter, Travel & Education Director at Grapevine Wine Pouring Society, and earning his Executive Certificate in Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame. John published two regional history books, "Parkland Hospital: Images of America" and "Grapevine, Texas: The Stories Behind Our City Streets." John had a special knack for staying busy; he loved to travel the world with family, eat at hole-in-the-wall restaurants, cook ambitious meals at home, and walk along Grapevine Lake with his dog. He was a master gardener who grew prize-winning orchids and in his later years picked up the ukulele, playing in a local band. John challenged those around him to try new things and think outside the box – his thirst for knowledge and adventure was unparalleled.
John is survived by his wife Becky Boyd, son George Boyd, daughter Maggy Doherty, dog Pastis, and granddaughter Eliza, as well as his siblings, Tom Boyd, Lar Boyd, Ruth Blair, and Martha Hahn.
The funeral service will be held at Saint Laurence Church, 519 Kimball Ave, Southlake, TX 76092, on Saturday, April 23 at 11 am.
