Thomas Ellwood Moon, Jr. (Tom), beloved husband, father, grandfather, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026, in
Grapevine, Texas, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. He was 86.
Tom was born on May 25, 1939 in
San Antonio, Texas, into a military family. The son of Col. Thomas Ellwood Moon and Elizabeth Goodman Moon, he spent much of his childhood in Japan and traveled extensively; experiences that shaped his curiosity about the world and his adaptability throughout life. One of his proudest accomplishments was achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Larry Moon Block.
A gifted musician growing up, Tom found lifelong joy in music and was a talented violinist and pianist. Besides his love for singing, he was especially known for his remarkable whistling - something friends and family often said no one could match. Music was not just a skill for him, but a language through which he connected deeply with others.
Tom proudly served in the United States Air Force and was last stationed in Wichita, Kansas, where he later attended Wichita State University. Near the end of his military service, fate intervened in an unexpected way: through a student-written computer match, he was introduced to Judith Zyskowski (Judy). Judy initiated contact by letter, and from that first correspondence, a lifelong love story began. Six weeks later they were engaged, and one year after that they were married, beginning a devoted partnership that lasted 58 years.
Tom was a loving and steadfast husband to Judy, a devoted father to Todd Alexander Moon (Nanci) and Karin Elizabeth Moon Sherman (Chris), and a proud grandfather to Todd Moon, Jr., Bryleigh Moon, Linden Moon, Lachlan Sherman, and Celeste Sherman. His family was the center of his life, and he will be remembered for his warmth, humor, loyalty, and quiet strength.
Tom will be laid to rest in the Moon family plot in San Marcos, Texas.
