John Arthur Boyd

Mr. John Arthur Boyd was born July 4, 1947 in Newberry, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Deacon Andrew Larkin Boyd, Sr and Deaconess Anna Lee McMorris Boyd. He departed this life on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
At an early age he was baptized and joined Bush River Missionary Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Gallman High School Class of 1965. Mr. Boyd was a graduate of Denmark Technical College where he majored in Barbering. He served his country in the U. S. Army on active duty and in the National Guard in Germany and stateside. He had careers as a barber and as a part-owner of a landscaping business in Newberry for many years.
Mr. Boyd was predeceased by his wife Glendora Wicker Boyd; brother, Deacon Charles E. Boyd, Sr.; sister-in-law, Odessie R. Boyd; niece, Audrey V. Boyd and a host of other relatives.
Mr. Boyd is survived by his son, Daron T. Simpson (Minister Carolyn) of Cross Hill, SC; daughter, Amanda S. Davenport of Newberry, SC; son, Henry Lee Davenport of Columbia, SC; four grandchildren, Alexus and Bry'Anna Wicker both of Newberry, SC, Derrell Shipp of Charlotte, NC and Malachi DeGraffe of Fayetteville, NC;five great-grandchildren, Ke"Ari Wicker, Zalayha Goodwin and Jasaiah Wicker all of Newberry, SC Jerimiah and Josiah Shipp of Charlotte, NC; brothers, Deacon Andrew L. Boyd, Jr. of Piedmont, SC, Mr. Robert L. Boyd of Newberry, SC, Dr. Willie E. (Patricia) Boyd, Sr. of Darlington, SC and Deacon/Colonel (Ret.) Larry C (Paula) Boyd, Sr. of Florence, SC; sisters-in-law, Joyce Boyd of Baltimore, MD and Barbara Boyd of Darlington, SC; aunts, Essie McMorris Perkins of Columbia, SC and Viola McMorris of Orangeburg, SC; brothers-in-law, Donald (Joyce) Wicker, Michael (Jennifer) Wicker and Lynwood Wicker all of Union, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Bush River Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Newberry Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. Public viewing will be on Monday, May 26, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Fred B. Pratt Memorial Chapel.
