John Lawrence Brotherton - Scottsdale, AZ
John Lawrence Brotherton, 66, passed away peacefully on the morning of November 28th, surrounded by the laughter and chaos of his loving family preparing Thanksgiving dinner. We can't think of a more appropriate day for John to leave this earth: a day when we are all reminded to count our abundant blessings. John bravely battled pancreatic cancer for two years, demonstrating to all who knew him the importance of faith and perseverance, even in difficult times.
John was born on November 1, 1958, in Phoenix, AZ, and was always proud to share that he was a 3rd generation native of Phoenix. John attended Central High School and graduated from Cortez High in Phoenix, AZ. He attended Emmaus Christian College in Oak Park, IL, and Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ, where he majored in Finance. He was a Certified Financial Planner (CFP and worked in the financial services industry since the early 1980s. John and his wife, Donna, founded Brotherton Investment Consultants, LLC in the late 1990s. Their business was later purchased by United Capital and eventually sold to Goldman Sachs, and after many years of dedicated service, he retired in 2023. The highlight of his career was always helping others live their lives to the fullest.
John had a wide range of hobbies from camping and boating to volunteering and figure skating with his wife and daughters. He could always engage in passionate discussions on various topics, from Star Trek to life's big questions-nothing was off the table for John. He was genuinely a person who was larger than life; he openly shared his thoughts and feelings, and his extensive knowledge and wisdom ensured he always had something significant to contribute to any situation. Though John had many passions, what he valued most was spending time laughing with family and friends, sharing the abundance of God's love.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Donna, sons Ariel (Sarah) and David (Sara), twin daughters Lauren and Katelyn, and grandchildren Johanna, Jolene, and Josephine. He is also survived by his father William Brotherton (Virginia), brothers Steve (Janie), Bill (Uta), Bob (Kathryn), James (Anne Swanson) and David, sister Vicki Lamphear (Dale) and many nieces and nephews. John is preceded in death by his son Joel and his mother Carole Thomas (Leonard Tang).
Funeral services will be held at SBC North Ridge Church on Saturday, December 21st at 10:30 am, followed by a Christian burial at Paradise Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to House of Refuge or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

John has been my financial advisor and friend for over 30 years. I always looked forward to sharing politics, spirituality, world events and family with him. There is simply no replacement. He will be greatly missed but I look forward to seeing him on the other side. Patti Windes
