Obituary of John C. Brown
John C. Brown was born January 16, 1956, and passed away October 14, 2023.
John, his brother Jim Gay, and sister Gen Dye came to live with his Uncle Bob and family after the passing of their mother. John attended Tumwater High School and college for drafting. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany, where he was in the Military Police.
John was fortunate to work for companies that fulfilled his passions of construction and scuba diving. He worked for many years in and around the Thurston County area, doing drafting, construction, and home inspection. He also worked as a scuba diving instructor, as well as working in the dive shop. He was lucky to be able to travel out of the country to exotic areas for scuba diving. John had a great love for his dogs; he absolutely loved animals.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Gwen Scharr; uncle and aunt, Bob and Aunt Jewell Jane; grandmother, Gertrude VanDore; and his special great-aunts, Edna Holden and Francis Still.
John is survived by his brother, Jim Gay (Florida), and his children, niece Jaimie, and nephews Jeremy and Robert; sister, Gen Dye (Texas), and her children, niece Catrina and nephew Ryan; cousins, Debbie Ford, Denise Allred and Bobby Helm. He is also survived by his special friends, Carolyn Beers and Dorothy Linzee.
The family thanks hospice, NODA, and the staff of St. Peter Hospital for making John's last days filled with comfort and compassion. He was truly a gentle Giant.
