Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lasting Tributes Cremation and Funeral Care, P.A. on Jan. 12, 2026.
John Henry Brown, was born in Harwood, MD., on September 5, 1938 to the late William and Gladys Hall Brown. He departed this life on Friday, January 9, 2026 at his home, with his family by his side, after a brief illness.

John or John Brown, as he was often called was educated in the Anne Arundel County Public School System & served as president of the Gracious Living Community Club, while attending Ralph J. Bunche Elementary School. In his early years he worked with his dad in the building of the Harbor Tunnel in Baltimore, MD. He later became a self-skilled Heavy Equipment & Truck Operator. He was employed with Francis R. Moreland, Contractor for 50 plus years. Upon the demise of the Moreland Contractor, in 2009, John established the JH Brown Contractor Services. This was a great milestone for him that he and his family were so proud of.

He became a member of Hope St. Mark United Methodist Church at an early age. He loved working for his church and would faithfully, volunteer to be the chef for the church fundraisers. He also served as a member of the Usher Board and Trustee Committee.

John's passion was cooking, fishing, hunting and entertaining. In early 2000, he opened his home to the Wounded Warrior Veteran's & No Person Left Behind deer hunt, by providing home cooked meals after each deer hunt. For John, the more people he entertained the happier he was. John was also known by many as the master of country fried chicken.

He meant and was united in marriage to Nora Harried in 1987, and a combined family was formed. He loved and cherished them all and would always go above and beyond for Tray, April, and Tracey.

John was preceded in death by his parents, William, and Gladys Hall Brown; sister Marie Sellman and brothers Charles Brown, William Brown & Frank Brown.

He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife, Nora Harried Brown; son, Tray B. Brown (Monica); daughters, April Brown and Tracey Dailey (Dearl); Granddaughters, Danielle Brown, Tierra Smith and Keva Smith; great granddaughters, Danica Hawkins and Sariya Maynard; great grandson, Kyree Nicholson and Arturo Maynard; godsons, Jermiah Kent and Terrance Wilson; sisters, Gladys Randall and Nancy Johnson; brother, Raymond Brown (Barbara); son in law, Dearl Dailey; daughter in law, Monica Brown; sister in laws, Barbara Brown, Diane Randall and Dorothy Harried; brother in law, Leandre Harried; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
