John Toliver Bruce, Sr., passed away around 7:00 AM, March 14, 2026. John was born to John Louis and Mary Miller Bruce on March 10, 1939, in West, Mississippi.
A member of the Church of God, John dedicated many years of his life as the Minister of Music, sharing his love of music and his talent for playing the guitar.
He served his country in the National Guard.
Professionally, John was an electrician, for a hobby he loved deep sea fishing.
John leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Faye Pitts Bruce. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Garland Bruce and his three children: Angela Cook (Lawrence) of Mendenhall, Mississippi, John Bruce, Jr., of Bethpage, Tennessee, and Brenda Little (James) of Pearl, Mississippi. He leaves three grandchildren: Andrew Little, Amiee Yeager, and Joshua Cook, as well as two great grandchildren: Rachel Runnels and Hunter Yeager, along with several nieces and nephews.
John will be reunited in Heaven with his parents, John Louis Bruce and Mary Emma Bruce, his brother Bobby Bruce, and his siters Dolly Lindsey and Betty Muirhead. The family kindly requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society to honor John's memory.
Arrangements are being handled by Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, Mississippi with a graveside service to follow at Parkway Cemetery in Kosciusko, Mississippi.
