John M. Burkes of Fort Smith, Arkansas, died Wednesday, February 26, 2025, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born on May 30, 1954, in Brownwood, Texas, to the late Aubrey Maurice Burkes and Myrtle Lena (Carr) Burkes. He was 70 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marsha (Hardgraves) Burkes; and a sister, Gloria Burkes.
John served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. For 30 years, John worked and retired from Cass Job Corp. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
He is survived by a daughter, Andrea Crouch and husband Stonie of Fort Smith; a son, Evan M. Burkes and wife Katie of Springdale; two sisters, Mary Burkes of Altus and Melanie Bowles of Ozark; a brother, James Burkes and wife Beth of Shreveport, Louisiana; six grandchildren, Gillian, Spencer, Brayden, William, Ethan, and Elliott; one great-granddaughter, Friday, with one more on the way.
