James Homer "John" Busby, 84, of Palatka, passed away Sunday, September 21, 2025 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center in Palatka after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Helena, Arkansas, John had resided in Putnam County for the past 25 years coming from Tampa. He had worked as a warehouse manager and retired from IBM after which he worked as a public service assistant for the Putnam County Sheriff's Office and as a maintenance worker at the Ravine State Gardens, Dunns Creek State Park, and Walmart.
John was an honored graduate at TTI ( for computer engineering technology). He had many other certifications, including one from MACS (Mobile Air Conditioning Society) as well as one from RVSA (Recreational Vehicle Service Academy) from whom was accredited as a Certified Masters R.V. Technician. He also completed the Bob Hogue School of Real Estate and became a licensed Florida real estate salesperson.
He attended Open Bible Baptist Church in East Palatka and prior to declining health, he had been a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Zephyrhills before moving his membership in the fraternal order to the Palatka Moose Lodge #184. He was also a former member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie in Interlachen and the U.S. Veterans Post #104 in Palatka. In his leisure time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife of 15 years, Dorothy Louise Busby of Palatka; three daughters and sons-in-law, Tina Mitchell (Tom), Margaret Martin (Mike), and Tracy Klecki (Joe)-all of Tampa; a brother, William "Buddy" Busby of Alabama; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Teresa Reynolds of Mississippi and Sandra Steed (James) of Mississippi; seven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren and one on the way (which he was very happy about!).
A Celebration of Life will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 3, 2025 at the Palatka Moose Lodge, 3875 Reid St., Palatka, FL 32177 with Maurice Sterling officiating. The family will receive friends at the Lodge one hour prior to the start of the service.
