John Henry Mize Jr., lovingly known as Butch, of Mountain Home, TX, passed away on June 24, 2025, at the age of 70 in San Antonio, TX. Born on January 9, 1955, in Denton, Texas, Butch lived a life defined by service, strength, and humor.

A true Jack of all trades, Butch dedicated his hands and heart to many kinds of work throughout his life. He found his true calling and retired as a water well technician working on windmills, water wells, and pump systems — always the first to help, always willing to learn, and always ready to teach others.

Butch proudly lived a life of service. He served in the Army National Guard and later in life for the Mountain Home Volunteer Fire Department. One of his greatest life accomplishments was serving as a Master Mason and Secretary of the Kerrville Masonic Lodge No. 697. He poured his time and passion into being a Mason for over 25 years and working with the Scottish Rite for Children Hospital. His commitment to his community was unwavering. A faithful Christian, Butch’s life reflected his belief in serving others with love, humility, and grace.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents Don and Yvonne Green and John Henry Sr. and Allene Mize. Survivors include his wife, Beth Haynie Mize; daughters: Misty Yousef and husband Will of Celina, Texas, Monica Mize Whitaker and husband Frankie of Sanger, Texas, Mary Hall and husband Bobby of Crosby, Texas, Lori Richards and husband Doug of Fort Worth, Texas, and David Cox and wife Jamie of Ardmore, Oklahoma; twelve grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was the steady center of a close-knit family, lovingly known as “Pappy” — a patient teacher, a hilarious storyteller, and a source of endless encouragement and positivity.

Those who knew him will remember his strength, his generous spirit, his unmatched sense of humor, and the way he could light up a room just by being himself. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the laughs he shared, and the love he gave freely.

Donations can be made to Masonic Children and Family Services of Texas, 1240 Keller Parkway, Suite 200 Keller, TX 76248 or Scottish Rite for Children Hospital, 2222 Welborn St., Dallas, TX. 75219.

Services will be held at Kerrville Funeral Home on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 2pm. There will be a gathering with coffee and refreshments at the Kerrville Masonic Lodge following the services for all family and friends.
