Obituary John Callahan
John Joseph Callahan, 78, formerly of Philadelphia and Bensalem, PA, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2024, in Bristol, PA. Born on September 14, 1945, in Philadelphia, John grew up in New York City. He attended high school in Barrytown, New York, where he studied to become a Christian Brother. He went on to college in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in pursuit of his faith. John proudly served his country in the Vietnam War in 1968. While there, he and his brigade of Military Police successfully defended the US Embassy during the Tet Offensive.
In 1975, John moved to North East Philadelphia, where he worked as a salesperson and started a family. Guided by the Holy Spirit, John remained spiritual through both good and tough times in his life. He was creative and had a love of music. He was an avid sports fan, despite being conflicted between rooting for New York and Philadelphia professional teams. He retired in 2017 after twelve years working in security, where he managed a wonderful team of security guards for Allied Barton.
John was a beloved father to his sons, John and Mark Callahan, and a fond brother to Mark, Timothy, and the late Regina, Monica, and Brian. He cherished his grandchildren, Andrew, Anna, Emily, Julia, and Henry. His presence was a source of stability and love within his family. John will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
John will be laid to rest at Washington Crossing National Cemetery on September 25 at 11 a.m.
