John Joseph Canney, age 83, passed away peacefully on Sept 10. Jack was born and raised in Chestnut Hill and lived on Ardleigh street until 1968. He attended Our Mother of Consolation grade school and was thrilled to hear stories from the recent 70th reunion of his graduating class. He had very fond memories of playing baseball at the water tower with neighborhood kids who became lifelong friends.
Jack was an avid tennis player, high school teacher and coach for 40+ years, and accountant for the Chestnut Hill Pediatric Group. He enlisted in the Army at age 19 and proudly served our country in the Army Reserves for six years.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Ellen. He is also survived by his four children: Cathleen (Bob), Christopher (Blanca), Patricia, and John (Gretchen) and five grandsons: Nicholas, Joseph, William, Chase, and Everett.
Jack loved watching the Phillies and talking Philadelphia sports history.
