John Capellupo Obituary
October 20, 1934 - December 8, 2025
John Philip Capellupo of St. Louis, born October 20, 1934, went home to the Lord and to his wife of 63 years, Mary Ann (neé Truesdale, 1936-2020), on December 8, 2025, aged 91. "Cap" to his friends, John was a man of faith, generosity, and devotion to his family. After earning his BSc in Civil Engineering and MSc in Applied Mechanics from SLU, he worked for the McDonnell Aircraft Corporation (later McDonnell Douglas Aircraft) and became President of McDonnell Douglas Aerospace before retiring in 1996, after which time he served as a consultant with many aerospace companies.
A tireless contributor to numerous charities-including Boys Hope/Girls Hope, De Smet Jesuit H.S., and the St. Vincent De Paul Society-John was an active, integral member of St. Catherine Labouré of Sappington. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout as a boy and served as Scout Master for Troop 646 in the 1970s. He was a lifelong lover of the outdoors and of fishing, even if he never quite acquired a taste for fish.
John is survived by his sister, Mary Jo (Chuck) Wehmhoff; his children, Mark, Mona (Andrew) Sandroni, Michael (Elaine), Matt (Kelli), and Kevin (Desiree) Capellupo; sixteen grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. He lived a blessed, purposeful life.
Services: Visitation and funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 27 at St. Catherine Labouré Catholic Church, 9740 Sappington Road, St. Louis, MO 63128. Visitation at 9:30 a.m. with the Mass to follow at 10:30 a.m. Mass will be live-streamed at https://sclparish.org. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the charity of your choice.
