John Robert Carlesi passed Sunday, July 6, 2025, at the age of 57.
John was born to the late John and Concetta Carlesi and raised in Carroll Gardens,
Brooklyn, graduating from LaSalle Academy, 1986. He continued his education at St
Leo University, FL graduating with a BS in Physical Education. While at St. Leo, he
played Division II baseball in several positions, including second base.
Following college, John started teaching at PS230, where he met the love of his life,
Diane. They married and worked together; along with his mother Connie, for over 30
years, making PS 230 their second home.
John followed his love for baseball throughout his adult life, coaching numerous teams, and working many summers with his cousin Vinny at their family sport camps. In 2002, John became Head Varsity Baseball Coach for Stuyvesant High School and has been there until his passing. As Head Coach, John led his team to many winning seasons and was honored with several coaching awards, including 2024 PSAL Coach of the Year. Throughout his career, he has made an impact on thousands of children and will be greatly missed.
In addition to baseball, John loved fishing, boating and spending time with his cousin
Gerard, and his family at Breezy Point. John was caring, thoughtful and devoted to his family. He would do anything for anyone and was always ready to give a hand. He was a dedicated educator and baseball coach, working tirelessly with his colleagues, students, coaches, and baseball players.
His sense of humor always made everyone around him smile. John loved Superman
and was an avid collector. Quoting one of his colleagues, ''The world has lost a
Superhero.'' John is survived by his loving wife Diane, his brother Vincent Carlesi and his wife (Kristin Carlesi), his mother and father in law Michael and Angela Bonelli, sisters in law Lisa Bonelli, Michele Craffey (Keith Craffey), Andrea Voutour (Michael Voutour), along with many nieces and nephews and loving cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM on Friday at Holy Child Church located at 4747 Amboy Rd Staten Island, New York 10312. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island, NY.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at The John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd. (at Eltingville Station), Staten Island, New York.

My deepest condolences to the entire family.
My last conversation with John was in the weight room where he spoke about his athletes and their accomplishments. He was passionate about the sport and children he coached. He genuinely enjoyed being with Stuyvesant athletes. His enthusiasm and caring nature will be greatly missed here, at Stuyvesant High School.
