Bergljot Gustavsen

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Bergljot (Betty) Gustavsen on October 12, 2025 surrounded by her loving family..
Born in Lyngdal, Norway, in 1931, Betty was one of ten children. Though she lived through the hardships of the Great Depression and World War II, she carried many fond memories of her childhood. She loved sharing those stories with her family and took great pride in her Norwegian heritage.
Betty was an active member of the Sons of Norway at Nansen Lodge, where she found deep connection and friendship among fellow Norwegian-Americans. She was also an active member of Eltingville Lutheran Church, where she was part of the Quilters group for over 20 years, until the church closed. She then became a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Great Kills and participated in their many events.
A nurse trained in Oslo, Betty was a woman ahead of her time. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Eger Home for most of her career while raising three children and maintaining a warm and loving home. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and frequently returned to Norway to visit family and friends. Her kind heart and gentle spirit touched everyone she met,she never missed an opportunity to share her warmth and conversation.
Betty was predeceased by her beloved husband, George; her son, Roy; and her grandson, Roy Jr.
She is survived by:
Daughters ; Karin Bulger and Ellen Fisher
Sons-in-law ; Jim Bulger and Anthony Fisher
Grandchildren ' Inga Lynskey (Finley), James Bulger IV, Gregory Finley, Leanna Fay (Gustavsen), Veronica Bocconi (Bulger), and George Bulger
Great-grandchildren ; Kayla, Peter, and Daniella Lynskey; James Bulger V; and Hazel and Conner Fay, Jr.
Betty will be forever missed and lovingly remembered.
Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Family and friends are asked to gather on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at The John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals and Cremation Services Inc. 28 Eltingville Blvd.
Religious services will be held on Thursday at Christ Lutheran Church 121 Cleveland Aveune at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Moravian Cemetery.
