Donald Campbell, 78, passed away peacefully on October 17, surrounded by his loving children and grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 36 years, Diane, and his parents, Charles and Patricia Campbell.
Donald was a devoted father to Michael, Lori Ann Gargiso, Donald Jr., and Jennifer Gargano, Beloved father-in -law to Chris, Alison, and the late Michael Gorumba. Cherished grandfather to Andrew, Michael, Christian, Donald III, Julianna, and Angelina. He was the beloved brother of the late Charles, Ann Dekersky, and Brian Campbell, and is survived by his loving siblings Gerard Campbell and Patricia Warne. He was also a treasured uncle, cousin, and friend to many.
Donald proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a Military Police Officer and Dog Handler serving in the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968. He received the National Defense Service Medal in recognition of his dedication and service.
After returning home from Vietnam, Donald met the love of his life, Dianne. They married in 1969 and moved from Brooklyn to Staten Island, where they built a beautiful life and family together.
Donald began his career with the City of New York in 1970 as a laborer in the Department of General Services. Through hard work and determination, he rose through the ranks to become Assistant Commissioner for the Department of Citywide Administrative Services. In 1978, he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business from the College of Staten Island. He received one of the highest ranking awards from the City of New York the Sloan award in 1998. He retired 2002 after 32 years of dedicated service to the City of New York.
In retirement, Donald remained active in the Vietnam Veterans organizations on Staten Island and volunteered as a bereavement counselor at both Star of the Sea Church and St. Christopher's Church.
Donald's greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was the rock of his family' a steady, loving, and dependable presence to all who knew him. His strength, wisdom, and kindness will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Monday, October 20, 2025, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church located at 5411 Amboy Road Staten Island, New York 10312. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island, NY.
