John Howard Carmel

Greece - John H. Carmel passed away on Monday, May 22, 2023 at the age of 74. He was predeceased by his parents, Jackson and Emma (Kirk) Carmel. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary (Johnson) Carmel; and his sons, Jeremy Carmel and Justin (T.J. Dickson) Carmel.
John was a Veteran of the US Army, having served in the Vietnam War. He worked for the Town of Greece Department of Public Works as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic for 40 years. He was a member of the Lake Shore Fire Department, ascending to the rank of Deputy Chief, giving almost 50 years of service to his community. John also enjoyed deer hunting, camping, stock car racing, and working on his friend's farm in Angelica, New York. John was well-known for his colorful stories of his experiences in life and his larger than life personality.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 30th from 4 - 7 PM at the Thomas E. Burger Funeral Home, 735 East Avenue in Hilton. A Memorial Service will follow calling hours. There could be a considerable number of individuals in attendance, so please be aware that you may need to park in an alternate location - perhaps the high school parking lot across the street from the funeral home.
