John Carmichael Obituary

John Carmichael

Bedford, NH - John Carmichael, 83, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025 at the Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen, New Hampshire. He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Elizabeth Carmichael of Bedford, NH, his former wife Judith Post of Manchester, NH, son John Carmichael and his wife, Kristine, of Atkinson, NH, daughter Maureen Boyden and her husband, John, of Bedford, NH, daughter Jill Hatfield and her husband, Michael, of North Easton, MA, son Craig Carmichael and his wife, Mary, of Tyngsboro, MA, son Stephen Carmichael of Franklin, NH, daughter Lois Brodsky and her husband, Stephen, of Bedford, NH, son Joseph Carmichael of Franklin, NH, son Eric Carmichael of Franklin, NH, daughter Megan Bassett and her husband, Cori, of Cumberland, VA and daughter Rebeka Osteen and her husband, Mitch, of Danbury, NH. He is also survived by twenty-two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

John, son of Beatrice and Robert Carmichael, grew up in Billerica, Massachusetts in a large family of 16 siblings. As one can imagine, in a family that large you're either surrounded by love or constant bickering. The Carmichael clan was full of love, loyalty and a healthy dose of sarcastic humor. John is predeceased by siblings Robert, Donald, Marcia, Paula, Nancy and Duncan, and is survived by siblings Malcom (Hoagy), Edward, David, Richard, Alan, Susan, Bruce, Paul and Sharon. The nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews that followed are too many to mention, too cherished to omit.

John enjoyed spending time with his many family members and one would anticipate there would be time for little else. Yet John was very active in the Congregation Christian Church of Franklin, he was an avid reader and lover of roadtrips, camping, and especially the ocean, with frequent trips to his favorite place, Perkins Cove & Marginal Way. He did his part to sustain the growth of Dunkin' Donuts until the very end. John's career path took him from Hewlett-Packard, Carmichael Wholesale Grocers, Grossman's and RB Johnson & Sons.

A private celebration of his life will occur at a later date and take the place of more formal funeral services.

Above all, John loved God. He showed it in a million ways. A truly wonderful man and role model. He will be missed- but Heaven has gained an angel.
