John Russell "Rusty" Carter, age 56, died on Thursday, June 26, 2025, in Portal, GA. Rusty was born in Candler County on November 1st 1968 to E.C. Carter Jr. and Carolyn Goodman Carter. He was raised in Portal, GA and was a 1988 graduate of Portal High School. He worked for Franklin Chevrolet and Goodwill for several years until returning home to work on the family farm with his daddy and brother. Rusty loved sports and was an avid football, baseball, and basketball fan. He was preceded in death by his father, E.C. Carter Jr.
He is survived by his mother, Carolyn Carter, his brother and sister-in-law, E.C. Carter III "Peewee" and Paula Carter, a special niece and nephew, Katie Leigh Anderson and Mitchel Lance Carter, as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family will receive visitors on Saturday from 10:00am until 11:00am at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro. The funeral will follow at 11:00am with Rev. Toby Skrine officiating.
Interment will be at Portal City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Scott Skrine, Zane Jordan, Tim Johnson, Benji Rushing, River Rushing, Lane Sanchez, and Jason Sanchez.
