John Andrew Carter, 66, passed away peacefully on December 15th, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born on September 22nd, 1959, in Gary, IN, John was the son of George and Dorothy Carter (Keilman). John was a 1977 graduate of John Glenn High School in Walkerton, IN.
Early in John’s career he worked at Young Door in Plymouth, IN. Later in life, John worked at the Indiana Department of Corrections, specifically the Westville Prison Facility. John later became a TSA agent at the local South Bend Regional Airport until retirement.
John was a pillar of strength and support for his family. Single handed, he raised three children on his own. Not only at times did he work several jobs, but found the time to coach his kids’ football or baseball teams. He was a true role model, who never expected a “thank you” or asked for anything in return. He was the type of father who “caught you every time” then “taught you to stand up taller”. He was the definition of stability and silently he reformed and taught a lifetime of values to his kids. For us kids, he was and will forever be our everything.
John was the “funny” uncle for his nieces and nephews. He was the “protector” to brothers and sisters. He was the “kind soul” to many friends. He was “spiritual” and overall, just a good person. Others remember him as Santa Claus as he would volunteer for many around Christmas time.
John was survived by his children, Lindsey Cathleen Ruby (Carter), and her husband Matthew Ruby. His son Jon Carter and his wife Sydney Carter and his daughter Emily Carter. He is survived by his (4) grandsons, Connor Sternaman, Lucas Sternaman, Zayne Ruby, and Blake Carter. John was also survived and very excited to have an upcoming granddaughter due in February of 2026. John is survived by his siblings, Colleen Carter (Posey), Josephine Carter (Flanagan), Marrianne Carter (Brown), Andrew Carter, Dennis Carter, and spouses. He was also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He is proceeded in death by his parents George Andrew Carter and Dorothy Ann Carter (Keilman).
A funeral service will be held to celebrate John’s life on Friday, December 19th, 2025 at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth, IN 46563.
