John C. Cataldo, age 89, of Billerica, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at his home. He was the beloved husband of the late Celeste M. (Pisco) Cataldo.
Born in Boston on June 10, 1935, John was the son of the late Carlo E. and Antonetta (Luongo) Cataldo. He was raised in Somerville and moved to Billerica in 1967, where he would spend the remainder of his life.
John's greatest joy was the love and time spent with his family, especially around the dinner table, sharing stories and creating memories with his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered as a devoted father and grandfather who always put his family first.
John had a distinguished career as a firefighter with the City of Somerville, dedicating over 30 years of service before his retirement.
He is survived by his son, John Cataldo and his wife Kimbly of Atkinson, NH; daughters, Karen Lomanno and her husband Stephen of Reading, and Laura Arthur and her husband Jeffrey of Billerica; and his brother, Carlo Cataldo of Billerica. John is also survived by his six cherished grandchildren: Samantha Cataldo, Jessica, Jade, and Jaclyn Lomanno, and Andrew and Meghan Arthur. He was predeceased by his siblings: Virgilio and Anthony Cataldo, Phyllis Capizzi, Melinda Smith, and Esther Simonini.
A Memorial Visitation will take place on Monday, December 9, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 10 a.m. at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish at St. Theresa Church, 466 Boston Rd., Billerica. Burial will follow at Fox Hill Cemetery in Billerica.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in John's name to the Winchester Hospital, C/O UNIT B-3, Hospital Oncology Floor, 41 Highland Ave., Winchester, MA 01890.

I remember when I was younger the stories and jokes Uncle Johnny would tell during Easter! You will be dearly missed uncle Johnny!

My sincere condolences to John's family. I first met John while he was sitting on the ground, leaning against the wall out front of the Somerville Ave. firestation in maybe the late 60s where he and my Dad worked. I stopped on my bicycle, said hello and asked if my Dad could come out. John went in and got my Dad. They worked together for years. Then many years later in '84, my husband and I moved to Billerica around the corner from John and Sally. We were surprised to meet again up here and I started passing hellos back and forth between John and my Dad. My Dad passed last Feburary 8th. Maybe now they'll be rehashing days gone by at the Somerville Ave. firestation. I just talked to John a couple weeks ago at his house. He will be greatly missed by all. Rhonda Giles Rizzo
