John Hugh Chambers, 80, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at his home. He was the husband of 56 years to Kathy Taylor Chambers who survives and the son of the late Percy Lee and Carrie Etta Dickey Chambers.
John retired after 30 years with Lucent Technologies as an Electrical Engineer. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, member of the Seniors Sunday School Class and former member of the choir. John enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger years. John and his family enjoyed camping trips and being in the outdoors. In recent years he enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
John was survived by his wife of 56 years Kathy T. Chambers of the home; daughters, Michelle Chambers of Burlington, Cheryl Harrell and husband, Jerry of Garner, Cindy Chambers of Burlington and April Rossi and husband, Ken of Falls Church, Virginia; ten grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; sisters, Lillie Mae Zimmerman of Holly Ridge and Gladys Kay Albert of Roxboro; brother, Thomas Chambers and wife, Barbara of Timberlake. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Seth Oakley; brothers, Lee and Lewis Chambers and sisters Elizabeth Harris and Ethel Cash.
A service to celebrate John’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at Friendship Baptist Church by Dr. Tommy Cook. The burial will follow at Gibsonville City Cemetery with military honors by the US Army. The family will receive friends from 5-7PM on Monday, May 6, 2024 at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
