John Taylor Chastain

John Taylor Chastain, a beloved father and grandfather, passed away on October 10, 2025, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. Born on May 19, 1947, in Jackson, he was the son of W.O. Chastain and Jewel Boone Chastain.

John was a proud graduate of Forest Hill High School, class of 1965, where he excelled as an honor student and starred as an all-city football player. His early years laid the foundation for a lifelong love of craftsmanship, which he pursued as a carpenter with Henson Construction. Fueled by a passion for woodworking, John not only created functional structures but also crafted moments of joy for those around him.

John deeply cherished his family, particularly his four sons, whom he is survived by: Clay Chastain (Mila) of Brandon, Michael Chastain (Michelle) of Terry, Taylor Chastain (Halee) of Madison, and Mason Chastain (Tammy) of Brandon. He was proud to be their father and relished every opportunity to spend time with them and leaves a great legacy behind to his eight grandchildren.

Beyond his family, John found peace in the great outdoors, enjoying hunting, fishing, and playing golf. These activities brought him joy and provided a way to connect with nature and loved ones alike. His zest for life made an impression on all who knew him.

John is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Marsha Hughes Chastain, and his brother Billy Chastain. He is survived by his sons, grandchildren, and a sister, Carolyn Wynne of Pearl, each of whom will remember him fondly for his strong spirit and loving presence.

As we remember John Taylor Chastain, we celebrate the legacy of a devoted father, a skilled craftsman, and a man who touched many lives with his warmth and generosity. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Services for Mr. John T. Chastain will be held at First Baptist Flora, with a visitation on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, 10:00 am until 11:00 am.  The funeral service will begin at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.  He will be buried at Flora City Cemetery following the funeral service.  +
