John L. Chitwood of Cuba, Missouri, was born on May 15, 1947, in Ramona, Oklahoma. He peacefully passed away on March 6, 2025, at the age of 77, at St. Clare Health Center in Fenton, Missouri.

A proud graduate of Ochelata High School, John completed his education with a bachelor’s degree in 1969 and a Master of Education in Secondary Education in 1972 from Northeastern State College. He honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1970 to 1972, earning the rank of E-5.

On January 1, 1984, John was united in marriage to Wanda Garms in Cuba, Missouri. Together, they built a life filled with love and joy.

John dedicated 30 years of his career as a Math and Industrial Arts teacher at Crawford County R-2 School District, retiring in 2003. He was known not only for his passion for teaching but also for his love of woodworking and the great outdoors. John found solace in spending time on his farm, where he raised cows, goats, chickens, and ducks, tended to his garden, and enjoyed mowing the lawns—all while spoiling his beloved two Great Pyrenees.

Those left to treasure his memory are his wife Wanda K. Chitwood of Cuba; four children Justin (Anita) Chitwood of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Travis (Stacy) Chitwood of Springfield, Missouri; Kayla Chitwood of Cuba; and Casey Chitwood of St. Paul, Minnesota.

In accordance with his wishes, John will be cremated. A private family service will be held.

The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to serve the family of John L. Chitwood. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
