John B. Coburn, 73, passed away on September 19, 2025, in Wills Point, Texas. A devoted veteran, compassionate nurse, and passionate enthusiast of all things mechanical and fast, John lived a life marked by service, love, and quiet strength.

Born on December 26, 1951, in England, Arkansas, to Clifton E. Coburn and Mary Sue Rockwell, John spent his early childhood in California before being raised in Arkansas. He graduated from Benton High School with the Class of 1970 and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Registered Nursing from Ouachita Baptist College in Arkadelphia.

John proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. Following his military service, he began a long and varied professional journey. He worked for many years at Reynolds Aluminum before transitioning into healthcare as a nurse at the VA Hospital-a role that perfectly suited his gentle nature and deep compassion for others. He retired from the VA on August 14, 2014. Even after retirement, John remained active and engaged with people through his work at Bass Pro Shops.

On March 17, 1985, John married Dorothy "Dot" Coburn. Their marriage was one of enduring love and partnership until her passing on May 21, 2022. Together they built a life filled with shared passions and mutual respect.

In recent months, John had made his home in Wills Point after living for over three decades in Maumelle, Arkansas. He was a man of Baptist faith and a member of The Church at Rock Creek.

John's interests reflected his vibrant personality-he had a lifelong passion for building muscle cars and collecting die-cast models. He loved fishing trips that brought him peace and joy. His enthusiasm for funny cars (drag racing), motorcycles, sports, and dogs was infectious to those around him.

He is lovingly remembered by his fiancée Geishla Driver; her children Austin Driver and Allie Driver; his brother Harold Coburn and wife Lisa; sister Carolin Moncrief and husband David; nieces and nephews Kendra Coburn, Jennifer Coburn, Justin Fraser, Seth Cheek, Lauren McNutt, Cory Fraser, and Brice Fraser. He also leaves behind his four-legged best friend, Saddie.

John was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorothy "Dot" Coburn; parents Clifton E. Coburn and Mary Sue Rockwell; and sister Malissa Coburn.

A man described as athletic, gentle, loving, caring, brave, passionate-and above all-patient and deeply loved by those who knew him best. His legacy lives on not only through family but also through the countless lives he touched with kindness throughout his career and personal life.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on October 18th, 2025 at Roller Alcoa Funeral Home located at 6700 Alcoa Rd. Benton, AR

I am so sorry to hear about John´s passing. I got to know him through my husband.... They were classmates...Benton Class of 1970.
My husband passed in July and John was so thoughtful and came to his visitation.
Great guy that will be missed!

It was always a pleasure to see John & Dot every Thursday at Larry´s Pizza.
John was always bigger than life as we grew up on Pike Street. He was someone to look up to & not just because he had nice cars. John could do anything, was popular & confident but still treated all of us younger than him with compassion & friendliness. We need more John Coburns in this world.
Praying for God´s peace & comfort to Harold & Carolin.
