William Burnett Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mullin-Fuller Funeral Home - Wills Point on Feb. 11, 2026.
William Charles Junior "Scooter" Burnett, age 73, passed away on February 10, 2026, in Grand Saline, Texas. Born on November 20, 1952, in Dallas, Texas, he lived a life marked by dedication to his work, deep love for his family, and an enduring passion for all things racing.

A proud graduate of H. Grady Spruce High School in Dallas, Class of 1971, William went on to build a career with the City of Dallas as a mechanic. His skill and commitment to his craft were evident throughout his years of service until his retirement in 1997. Known for his ability to build cars from the ground up, he brought both precision and heart to everything he worked on.

Affectionately known as "Scooter," William was a man whose presence filled every room-ornery in the best way and always ready with a laugh or a story. He had an unmistakable warmth that made him a big lovable bear to those who knew him best. His greatest joy came from caring for his family and spending time with them.

William's love for dirt track racing was more than a hobby-it was a lifelong passion. Whether he was behind the wheel or cheering from the stands, racing ran through his veins. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and collecting racing memorabilia, surrounding himself with reminders of the sport that brought him so much excitement and joy.

He is survived by his son Chris Burnett; daughters Misty Dawn Burnett Fox and her husband Abraham, and Hannah Marie Burnett Hardy and her husband Bryan; grandchildren Emma Fox, Joshua Fox, Savanna Burnett-Girdley and her husband Lane, Sidney Burnett, Hadley Hardy, and Weldon Hardy; brothers Mike Burnett and George Burnett.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jimmie Junior Burnett and Dorothy Henrietta Hayes Burnett; and brother Jimmy Burnett.

William's legacy lives on through the family he loved fiercely and the memories shared around racetracks, garages, and family gatherings. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
