John S. "Sonny" Coffer, 86, of Star Junction, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2024 in Shadyside Hospital. A son of the late William and Anna (Fabrizio) Coffer, he was born in Blythedale on November 28, 1938.
A resident of Star Junction for the past 20 years, John was a member of St. Charles R. C. Church in Sutersville and the West Newton Sportsmen's Club. He was a peacetime U.S. Army veteran serving in Germany, retired from the Dick Corporation and belonged to Local 373 in Pittsburgh. John enjoyed woodworking, spending time at his camp in Bedford, hunting, and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Peggy Dean Bergman Coffer, a daughter and son in-law, Lisa and Todd Daugherty of Pittsburgh, two sons and a daughter in-law, John W. and Lori Coffer of Star Junction, and Jeffrey Coffer; three grandchildren, Jason (Amy) Coffer, Jordan (Richard) Fanala, and Travis (Anna) Schneider; seven great grandchildren, Samantha, Lucas, Justin, Emily Coffer, Garrett and Grant Fanala, Payten Schneider, and one on the way, two sisters, Rosalie (Melvin) Rodgers of Meadville, and Shirley Flanigan of Blythedale; brothers in-law and sisters in-law, Linda and Nick Hulyk, Donna Bergman, Tamara (Bart) Aitken, Debra (Jesse) Carse, and John (Ting) Bergman, former son-in-law, Jack Molnar; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Charles Bergman and Todd Bergman in infancy, and his furry companion, Lucy.
Friends will be received on Saturday, December 21, 2024 from 12 P.M. to 2 P.M. in the Ferguson Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 700 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon. 724-929-5300. www.FergusonFuneralHomeandCrematory.com. A blessing service will follow visitation at 2 P.M. with Msgr. James Gaston officiating. Inurnment will be in the Cemetery of the Alleghenies at a later date.
