John Condon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service - Concord on Mar. 4, 2026.
Concord, MA - John Patrick Condon, Jr., 91, died at Emerson Hospital on February 27, 2026 - the same hospital where he was born May 19, 1934.

Affectionately known as Jack or Butch, he attended Concord Public Schools, graduating from Concord High School in 1953. There, he was on the winning track team, competing in high jump and hurdles. He also played basketball, football, and baseball and was a lifelong Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins fan.

Jack was born to John Patrick and Margaret Mansfield Condon of West Concord. His father owned Condon's Package Store on Commonwealth Avenue. When his father died, Jack and his brother Jim took over the family liquor and real estate businesses. Jack traveled to vineyards in France and Germany to expand the wine business. During the Korean War, Jack served in the U.S. Army in the 9th Signal Company stationed in Germany. He was predeceased by his brother Jim, his five sisters, two nephews and his parents.

A talented tenor, Jack enjoyed sharing his musical talent. He sang in the choir of Our Lady's Church in West Concord and performed with the Basically Broadway singing group in Boston. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis, and a lifetime member of Musketaquid Club. Religion played an important role in Jack's life: he was always finding ways to help others whether it be supporting food pantries or serving as a Eucharistic Minister. A dedicated volunteer with Haitian Outreach, he traveled to Haiti on multiple missions to bring clothing, building and medical supplies, and equipment.

Jack lived in Concord, MA; Newton, MA; Midlothian, VA; and most recently Carver, MA.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Judith Bowering Funkhouser, and his many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather for a burial service at St. Bernard's Cemetery and celebration of life in Concord this spring; date to be announced.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.

CARL TARANTINO

March 5, 2026

My deepest condolences and prayers are with you Judith. During Jack's residence in Midlothian VA, I came to know Jack through the many church activities and volunteer work he did at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic church. Jack was a very devout faith filled man who always put others before himself and selflessly gave of his time in helping so many people. Jack, you will be greatly missed. I thank God for allowing me to share a wonderful friendship with you. Eternal peace, joy, and rest in the Lord. Carl Tarantino, Richmond, Virginia
