John Condra Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Greenlawn Funeral Home East on Nov. 28, 2025.
John William Condra went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday morning, November 27, 2025. He was born May 20, 1944, in Iberia, Missouri, the son of Wesley and Blanche Condra.

John grew up in Tuscumbia, Missouri, and after graduation from high school in 1962, he attended Southwest Baptist College, graduating in the class of 1967. He returned to Tuscumbia and taught school for two years before being called upon to proudly serve his country in the US Army. During his time in the military, he was stationed in Missouri, New York, and Vietnam. Upon returning to civilian life, John's career took him back to teaching school for a brief time in Dixon, Missouri.

John was blessed with an exceptional God-given musical talent. A great joy in John's life was time spent playing piano and organ. Using that talent he served churches in Missouri, Illinois, and Colorado as director of music and youth. He was always diligent to serve the Lord in many capacities, including teaching Sunday School classes and serving as a deacon.

John had a love for traveling. He appreciated seeing the natural beauty of this country and he especially enjoyed international travels. Because of his love of nature, John spent many hours working outside in his flower and vegetable gardens.

Upon his return to Missouri, he worked for the United States Postal Service until his retirement in 2004.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved sister, Cleora Karr, his brother, Russell Condra, and a nephew Fred Condra. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Connie Condra, and nephews Paul (Denise) Karr, John (Tammy) Karr, Ed Condra and nieces, Peggy (Don) Young and Mary (Steve) Christie. Other survivors include 16 great nieces and nephews, many great-great nieces and nephews, and several cousins.

Visitation will be held 11:30 am to 12:30 pm, Thursday, December 4, 2025, at Greenlawn Funeral Home East, 3540 E. Seminole, in Springfield. Services will follow at 12:30 pm, in the funeral home.

Burial with military honors will be at 2:00 pm, Thursday, December 4, 2025, at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 S. Southwood Road, in Springfield, Missouri.

Because of John's love for children, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Missouri Baptist Children Home, 11300 St Charles Rock Road, Bridgeton, MO 63044-2793 or online at https://mbch.org/ways-to-give/ or a charity of donor's choice.
