John T. Cooper was peacefully released from the cruel grip of Alzheimer's on February 21 while in the compassionate care of Crossroads Hospice. He was 83 years of age.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Zion and Dorothy (Dunn) Cooper, brother Harold and sister Jean Shumaker.
John was known for his love of story telling, his sense of humor, and much appreciated mechanical adeptness. He was also known as a man dedicated to his family, friends and country. A decorated Marine, he served this nation during the Viet Nam war, honorably discharged as Lance Corporal.
He furthered that dedication with 33 years at General Motors, where he fully retired at age 58.
His hobbies included fixing most anything brought to him in need of repair, which led him to working with his close friend, Scott Melvin, at Compucar the last years of his life. "Coop" was also fond of cooking holiday meals for his family and enjoyed listening to country music or the Sunday's Golden Oldies.
John leaves memories with his wife of 38 years, Sharon Sue (Wagner), his stepchildren Kim (Roger) Ballingham, Mike Wagner, Wendy Wagner-Pari, Grandchildren Jess, Emma, Kyle, Elliott, Nate, and Mallory, as well as 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his devoted brother, Don (Beth) Cooper and four nephews.
The family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date yet to be designated.
