John R. Cornwell, Jr., age 73 of Morristown, passed away Sunday, May 25 at Serenity House after an 11-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born in Memphis but spent most of his childhood and retirement years on the family farm in Church Hill. John retired from Farm Credit Services and was a graduate of the University of Tennessee where he was a member of the Pride of the Southland Band. He was the first Eagle Scout of many others in the family and later dedicated his time and experience as a Scoutmaster. John was also a Sunday school teacher and deacon of Manley Baptist Church. He was most at home on the farm and enjoyed the outdoors, woodworking, Indy 500 races, and bluegrass music.
John is preceded in death by his parents, John and Billie Cornwell and granddaughter, Emryn Faith Cornwell.
Survivors include: Debbie, children Morgan (Steven) Skaggs and Brad (Catie) Cornwell; five grandchildren: Bella, Wil, Charlie, Addie, and Ellery; brothers Chuck (Peggy), Steve, and Willie (Sharon).
Family will receive friends on Thursday, May 29, from 12pm- 1pm at Johnson- Arrowood Funeral Home in Church Hill. The graveside service will follow the visitation at Church Hill Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Serenity House, Morristown or Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast TN.
