John Edward Cotterman, 82, of Philo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, at The Morrison House.

He was born on November 28, 1942, in Zanesville, Ohio, to the late Donald and Janice (Jackson) Cotterman. A proud graduate of Zanesville High School, John dedicated his life to service. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force for 20 years and later worked as a detention officer in Phoenix, Arizona, before returning to his beloved home state of Ohio.

John was a man of many talents and passions. He was a gifted keyboard musician, a devoted fireman, and always willing to lend a hand to those in need. Above all, John cherished the time spent with his family. He was married to the love of his life, Candace "Candy" Arnold-Cotterman, for over 22 years, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories.

John is survived by his loving wife, Candy; his children, Duane E. Cotterman of Michigan, Traci (Ron) Scott and Jarrod Jones; sisters, Diana (Dan) Price and Karen (and the late Kurt) Rabine; sisters-in-law Paula Peterman, Cheri (Tim) Shipley, Randi Arnold and Greg Hartman, and Lisa Arnold; grandchildren, Rebecca Cotterman, Donald Cotterman, Lilly Cotterman, Faith Hirschfelt, Delanie Jones, and Kadance Jones, Amanda Jones and Markus Beach; great-grandchildren, Alexis Scott, Hunter Scott, Caiden Scott, Chevelle Beach, and Maci Beach; great-great-grandchildren, Zayden, Braxton, and Cambria; and several beloved nieces and nephews, including Nicole and Glen McClelland, Steve Kuhn, Brad Kuhn, Jesse Passwaters, Jeremy Passwaters, and Leanne Rhodes.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, John Cotterman, Jr.; and his brother-in-law, Gary Passwaters, and sister-in-law Carla Brown.

Friends and family may call on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM and 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Farus Funeral Home in Duncan Falls. A funeral service celebrating John's life will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at 11 AM at the funeral home, with Pastor Steve Harrop officiating. John will be laid to rest at Duncan Falls Cemetery with full military honors provided by the George Selsam VFW Post #1058 and the United States Air Force Color Guard.
