John L. Croce, 69, of Cranston passed away peacefully Sunday June 1, 2025, at home after battling lung cancer for the last year with his family by his side. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late John and Ermelinda (Russillo) Croce.
He was the beloved brother of Linda T. McCumiskey and her husband John, Gina Monteiro and her husband Joseph, as well as Lisa Benton and her husband James. He also leaves several nieces and nephews, Jessica E. (McCumiskey) Waterman, John A. McCumiskey, James Benton, Jr., Sarina (Benton) Lake, Joseph C. Monteiro and Tara (Monteiro) Gyra as well as a great niece Lily Correia, great nephews Alexander Lake and Mason Benton.
He retired after 35 years as a state employee for substance abuse and mental health. He was an accomplished pool player, playing on several leagues and in tournaments. Like his father before him, he was an avid saxophone player having played in bands in his younger days. He also enjoyed the casino atmosphere.
We wish to thank his primary care, Dr. Charles Hackett, Holly Gerzevitz and the entire staff for the care and compassion they offered him and his family.
His funeral will leave at 10:00 am on Friday June 13, 2025, from the Nardolillo Funeral Home, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston. Followed by his Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, Cranston. Inurnment will be in St. Ann Cemetery. VISITING HOURS will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 4:00-7:00pm.
