John was my closest friend when we were stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC. We were inseparable back in those days. We lost contact for many years after we both separated from the Army, but we recently reconnected and had talked of my wife and I visiting him in Butler, possibly this coming fall. We also discovered that we were both in the same area around the same timeframe during Desert Shield/Desert Storm.

I learned of John's passing by pure happenstance. I stumbled upon his obituary while doing an internet search and originally thought it was someone that shared the same name until I saw his picture and location. The news came as a shock and it hit me hard for a few days. I have attached a couple of pictures. He wasn't fond of having his picture taken, so most of the pictures I have are of him ducking, covering his face, or turning away from the camera.

The picture with the camouflage net was taken of us in Honduras, early 1987. I'm standing behind him. The picture of John alone was taken at his Home (Mom's house) in Butler over 4th of July Weekend, 1987. We took leave from Ft. Bragg and spent a about a week in Butler. I will miss John.
