John Arthur Daily
John Daily, 87 of Akron Ohio, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2024. Born on January 22, 1938 in Akron Ohio. John was the son of the late Robert and Ellen Daily and Sibling to Robert, Nadine and Jeffery (Deceased). He was a devoted Father of John Jr. Anne Tunney, Jane Cera, Andrew, Michael and Joeseph. John attended Akron University was member of Lone Star Fraternity and graduated in 1959. John continued to Akron School of law, graduated and passed the Bar in1963. He taught at Temple in 1964 and 1965. Was a practicing attorney in Akron Ohio for over 50 years.
In College John was an athlete. He earned four letters in wrestling and another three in football. As a heavyweight, Daily went undefeated from 1957-59, ending his career 31 straight dual victories. He won the 1958 and 59 Ohio conference heavyweight tittles and led the team to a tie for the conference championship in 1958. Later in that 58 season Daily advanced to the NCAA college division quarterfinals before being eliminated. He was the recipient of the 1957, ’58 and ’59, Touchdown club trophy as University of Akron’ most outstanding wrestler and the team captain in the 1958 and ’59 season. Daily was also a three-year starter at tackle U of A football team. He capped off the 1958-59 athletic year by receiving the James Horrigan Trophy as athlete of the year. While proving successful as an athlete, he excelled in many other areas. He served as Senior class president, treasurer of the lone Star Fraternity, and was listed in Who’s Who in American Colleges for two years. At the same time, Daily was married, the father of a son, and worked nearly full-time.
He owned the Bannock Pass Ranch in Dillon Montana from 1992 to 2022 and was known as” Rockin J” due to the Ranches Rockin J and Lazy K brand.
John was a founding member of the Northeast Ohio Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. An avid big game hunter he hunted in North America, Newfoundland, Alaska, Mexico and Africa.
A celebration of life will be held at Sunny Hill Golf Course 3734 Sunnybrook Rd, Kent OH44240 on January 18, 2025 from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.
