John Lee Daugherty (1963-2025)
John was born at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina to John Charles Daugherty and Jean Boyd Daugherty. He attended the University of Virginia where he majored in History and Classics (B.A. 1985) and graduated from UVA Law School (J.D. 1988). He spent the majority of his professional career in civil service as an attorney with the federal Department of Justice, where he rose to the position of Assistant U.S. Trustee, serving in both Greenbelt, Maryland and Lexington, Kentucky. An avid bibliophile, John amassed an impressive collection of books and classical music, and he had a 1,031 day streak on DuoLingo. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Laurie Curry Daugherty, two daughters, Emma and Rebecca, a sister Jennifer Daugherty, and his father, John Charles Daugherty.
A memorial service will be held Monday, February 10, 2025, at 11:00 am, at St. Raphael Episcopal Church, 1891 Parkers Mill Road, Lexington. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation in memory of John to National Jewish Health (donate.nationaljewish.org), the leading respiratory hospital specializing in research and treatment care for children and adults with respiratory disease, regardless of their ability to pay. Final arrangement details were provided by Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Harrodsburg Road.

I had the pleasure of working with John at DOJ and always enjoyed his wit and sense of humor. We once traveled to NYC for business and of course he had to stop at the Strand bookstore. My condolences to his friends and family.

We were so saddened to hear of John's death. We will miss his gentle smile and strong presence. He was a gentleman in all things. We will keep Laurie and the family in our prayers.
