John L. “Jack” Davidson, 91, passed away unexpectedly at home on January 28, 2026. A resident of Bedford Heights, Ohio, he was born and raised in Butler County, Pennsylvania.
Jack was born September 5, 1934, in Prospect, Pennsylvania, the son of John A. Davidson and Emma B. (McBride) Davidson.
He was a 1952 graduate of Slippery Rock High School and started his career working for Red Head gas stations in Butler, Pennsylvania. On March 3, 1956, Jack married Marjory Boyle and shortly after relocated to Bedford Heights, when Jack was promoted to a management position at Red Head.
Jack was an expert mechanic. After years of hard work, he was promoted to a supervisory position with the City of Cleveland Heights vehicle maintenance division, where he worked for 40 years, until his retirement.
He was known to family and friends as a person who could fix nearly anything. A keen observer of everyday life, Jack enjoyed spending his free time sitting at the city park, drinking coffee, and voraciously reading the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Throughout his life, Jack enjoyed outdoor activities and time spent at Kelley’s Island on Lake Erie. He had numerous interests and showed a natural curiosity for learning. An avid reader and sports enthusiast, he enjoyed watching documentaries, football, basketball, and baseball games. Jack had an extraordinary memory of sports memorabilia, recalling players, coaches, and momentous dates in sports history. He was an interesting and informed conversationalist.
Jack assisted with the Boy Scouts of America, after his youngest son enrolled, and enjoyed taking his sons camping, fishing, and canoeing. Above all, Jack adored his two grandchildren, Tori and Chase. Jack was a wise man with a generous spirit and has supported many local and national charity efforts without hesitation. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Jack is survived by a son, Tim Davidson and his wife, Amy (Boswell) Davidson, of Tallmadge, Tori Davidson-Reece (granddaughter) and her husband, Alex Reece, of Akron; and Chase Davidson (grandson); Emogene McAnallen (sister) of Mercer, Pennsylvania, and Robert “Buck” Davidson (brother) of Donalsonville, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marjory; his sons, Peter Davidson and Michael Davidson; and a great-niece, Alison Como.
At Jack’s request, no services will be provided. Memorial contributions in Jack’s name can be made to The Salvation Army or St. Jude’s Hospital.
