John Davis Obituary

DAVIS, John Henry "I Was Born at an Early Age" was the title of John Henry Davis' unpublished autobiography, penned after retirement to capture his vivid memories of childhood in East Texas, the second son of Sam Wesley Davis and Mary Christine (Rice) Davis. John, 80, died quietly in his sleep on March 30 after an eight-year battle with dementia. He will be fondly remembered as an all-around athlete and student leader in his hometown of Big Sandy; a veteran lieutenant of the U.S. Navy; a kind dentist who cared for hundreds during a lifelong career in North Dallas; and a thrill-seeker who loved fast cars, fast boats, and skiing in Colorado. He is survived by his loving wife, Janette Davis; son Brit C. Davis (wife Melissa, grandchildren Sage and Aven); daughter Melissa D. Lamb (husband Scott, grandchildren Charlie, Abigail and Oliver); sister-in-law Jane Davis (niece Whitney, nephew Jim) and nephew Lanse Derrick. He is preceded in death by his beloved brother Winston and niece Shannon. John's life will be honored at 2 p.m. July 21 in a ceremony with military honors at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate in John's name to UTSA's Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer's and Neurodegenerative Diseases.
