WATERFORD - After four long years apart, our Dad is finally with the love of his life, our Mom, on their 60th Wedding Anniversary.
John Paul DeWall of Waterford, NY passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at the age of 85.
He died peacefully with his loved ones by his side. His tireless love and devotion to his family were evident in his final moments.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY on January 19, 1937 and moved to Riverhead, NY a few years later. He graduated in 1956 from Riverhead High School in Riverhead, NY. John was a U.S. Navy Veteran, enlisted with the U.S. Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Number One "Seabees," where he was stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
John retired after a dedicated career of over 30 years from Bendix Corp. Friction Materials in Green Island, NY. The most important part of his life was his wife, his three daughters, and his grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Sheila Haughney DeWall, who passed away in October of 2018.
He is the beloved father and father in-law of Tricia A. Ricchiuti (Rocco) of Latham, NY, Michelle L. Williamson (Bruce) of Kingston, NY, and Denise M. Whitman (Randy Rathbun) of Stillwater, NY.
He is the proud Grandfather/Pa of Amanda (Jimmy Weik), Rocco John "RJ" (Chelsea Avery), Nicholas Ricchiuti, Conner Mackenzie Whitman, Adam, Caleb, and Damien Williamson. He is the adored great grandfather of Rocco David Ricchiuti.
John is the brother in-law of Patricia and Donald Lajeunesse of Cohoes, NY and Henry Thibodeau of Clifton Park, NY. He is also survived by several nieces & nephews.
The family would like to express their warmest gratitude for the amazing care given by his special friends, Sandy Wilsey and Maureen Riccitelli. You will forever be in our hearts!
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 9:30 am from St. Mary's Church in Waterford where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. The interment will follow at 11:30 am in the Gerald BH Solomon National Cemetery in Schuylerville with full military honors. Friends are invited and may call on Sunday from 4 to 7 pm at the Frank P. McDonald & Son Funeral Home 870 Second Avenue(124th & 125th Streets) in Lansingburgh.
