John Dehmlow Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Peterson & Patch Funeral Home on Mar. 16, 2026.
John Edward Dehmlow, 98 years old, long time Waukegan resident, died very peacefully in his home surrounded by family on Tuesday, March 10th.

Born in Highwood, the son of Edward August and Anna Mae, he served proudly in the Marines during both WWII and the Korean War. He was a member of the Waukegan Little Fort Lions Club and the Lake County Det 801 Marine Corps League. He married lifelong Waukegan resident, Joan Marie Dailey in April 1960 and raised 5 daughters and a son: Elizabeth, Ann, Margaret, Catherine, Mary and John. He had 5 grandchildren: Sabrina, Sylvia, Samantha, Sarah and Nicholas.

Devoted to his family, community, and career, John's lifelong remarkable work ethic brought him to Kleinschmidt Laboratories in Deerfield, IL. After 25 years of dedication to the company, his career moved him to Nixdorf Computer for the next 20 years. Not yet ready to retire, John worked as a courier for Lake Forest Hospital until he was 85.

When he wasn't working you could find John home in his kitchen cooking up a great family meal with groceries from Cribb's Fine Foods, sipping a Manhattan, and catching up on his favorite Tom Clancy novel. On date night's John and Joan would be seen at his favorite neighborhood hot spot, Louie's Restaurant, where his friend Richard "Rick" Hiser would join them for dinner.

During his retirement years John enjoyed playing cards with his kids, catching up with his family, watching John Wayne movies, Wheel of Fortune, spending time with his two cats, and listening to classical music. He will be missed dearly.

The family would like to thank the dedicated medical team of the James A. Lovell Veterans Administration and the compassionate team at Journey Care Hospice.

Services will be held at a later date.
