John J. "Jack" Delaney, 75, of Clifton passed away on Wednesday December 13th, 2023.
Born in Jersey City, Jack was raised there and then in North Arlington and for the past many years had lived in Clifton. He was a graduate of St. Aloysius High School in Jersey City where he was elected Class President and then earned his undergraduate degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University followed by two master's degrees from Montclair State University, one in Education and the second in Political Science. Jack enjoyed a lengthy career with the North Arlington Board of Education where he began as a teacher, then a Guidance Counselor before becoming Vice-Principal and finally Principal, all throughout his career genuinely caring for his students and holding in the highest regard his role in their lives. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War-era. In his younger years, Jack excelled at all things athletic and was named Captain of many of the teams he played on however two of his personal favorites throughout life were volleyball and especially racquetball. In addition, he was an avid NY Giants and NY Yankees fan and had an equal love for Duke Basketball and Notre Dame football as well. Jack loved to read, both books and of course his daily newspaper, and shared an equal love for a good cup of coffee and would never miss an episode of 60 Minutes. He was a humble man whose genuine kindness was never lost on others and will be truly missed by all who knew him.
Jack was predeceased by his loved and missed parents: John and Eleanor Catherine (nee Dolan) Delaney.
He is survived by his loved wife, Michele (nee Morck), of Clifton, whom he met while they were both students at Fairleigh Dickinson University; his two loved daughters: Heather M. Delaney of Clifton and Danielle Martinez and her husband, José, of New Windsor, NY and their daughter Julianna, his cherished granddaughter who he adored and was his world; and by his dear brother, William Delaney, of South Carolina.
