John Demitroff Obituary

KINGSTON, RI- John "Jack" Demitroff passed away on May 21, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born on May 6, 1930 to Pete and Liz (Murphy) Demitroff in Lehigh, Iowa as the youngest sibling to Bud, Evelyn and Kathleen. He attended Iowa State Teachers College where he excelled on the baseball team. He also played on semi-pro teams throughout Iowa. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving primarily at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Washington D.C. He taught and coached in Dunkerton, Lone Tree, Madrid, and Iowa City before joining The University of Iowa in the admissions office and later as Registrar. He moved with his family to Kingston, Rhode Island in 1975 and worked as the Registrar at the University of Rhode Island for 20 years.

Jack was a member and past chairman of the Iowa City Recreation Commission. He was a 31-year member and past president of the Rotary Club in Wakefield, RI. He was a member and past vice-president of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers, and a member of various committees of the NCAA. He was a member of Kingston Congregational Church since 1976. He was a gifted athlete and loved sports, especially baseball, basketball and golf. He played in the same golf foursome for over 20 years. Jack also enjoyed reading, listening to music, attending concerts and the

atre, but most especially enjoyed time spent with his wife, their children and grandchildren.

Jack is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Margaret (Marks) Demitroff. He is survived by his children, John (wife Sandy) and Ann (husband Frank), and his five grandchildren, Matt, Erica, Christopher, Allison, and Catherine.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of this amazing man but have comfort knowing that he is at last together with Marge once again.

A memorial service will be held on June 21 at 11:00 am at Kingston Congregational Church, Kingston, RI, with a reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall. Please consider a donation to one of his favorite charities: Boys Town, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, The Shriners Hospitals for Children, or The Special Olympics.
