John Dennis "Denny" Dempsey

John Denis Dempsey lived a full life. You probably knew him best as "Denny." He was born in South Bend, Indiana to F. Kenneth and Grace A. Dempsey. He had five siblings, Ken, Mary Ellen, Sheila, Susie, and Pat.
As a young boy Denny loved to play baseball, often as a catcher. After graduating from St. Joe High School, he attended John Carroll University in Cleveland's suburbs. He took time off to serve in the Army for three years. He then returned to John Carroll and graduated.
In the meantime he became reacquainted with old friends and joined a volleyball group where he met his wife-to-be, Cathy (Zehe). They married on April 1, 1967, at St Gregory the Great Catholic Church. They had three children, Maureen (John) Miller, Carrie (Rob) Upson, and Sean (Mindy) Dempsey. He loved each one of them as children and even more so as adults. Denny especially loved our family reunions and the games we played together. Working for Allstate Insurance Company, he was transferred from the Cleveland suburbs to the Chicago area. Although he became a Cubs fan, he couldn't give up his loyalty to the Green Bay Packers. Life was busy with three children and their activities. At work he was transferred to home office where he ended his career as a systems consultant. Even with all that was going on, he managed to play golf with his buddies. Shortly after his heart attack and triple bypass surgery in 1992, he retired. In 1996 we moved to Timber Greens Community in New Port Richey, Fl. While retired he volunteered to do income tax work with AARP. He then served on the Board of Directors at Timber Greens Community, a place dear to his heart. During all of this time he continued to play golf every chance he could. He touched many people's lives and will be missed by all. He passed away on Monday, December 16, at 84 years of age.
A Celebration of life will be held at Timber Greens at 3:00 on Monday January 6, 2025.
A Funeral Mass at St. Thomas Aquinas will be held on Tuesday, January 7, at 11:00 am.
He will be laid to rest on Tuesday, January 7 at 2:00 pm, at the National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
In lieu of flowers, consider donating in his name to Moffitt Cancer Center or plant a tree in memory of John "Denny" Dennis Dempsey.
